Sometimes, your phone chooses the 'headset' profile, while there is no headset connected to the phone. This makes the phone unusable since the speaker and mic will be disabled. The same goes for the 'car' profile.
What causes the 'stuck profile' problem ?
The problem is a mechanical one, NOT a software problem. The phone just fails to detect that you have removed the headset or remove the phone from the car kit.
How can you fix the 'stuck profile' problem on your HTC smartphone ?
There are several things you can try :
Rebooting the phone (but we guess you've tried that already)
Cleaning the connector with some alcohol on a cotton bud
Reinstering and removing the headset several times. It's important to try different 'angles' while you are removing the headset from the connector. Push and pull a little bit in different directions (use care, obviously you are trying to repair it, not wreck it). It should eventually pop out of the headset setting.
In the case of the car profile, you should try the same with the car kit. Insert and remove a few times from different angles.
Note : Most of the latest HTC phone models use a mini usb connector for the headset and carkit connection, which avoids the problem described.
