How to: Disable Auto Correction

How to : disable auto correction on iPhones (firmwares 1.x, 2.x)

Auto Correction while typing on the iPhone can be very annoying. By default, the option to Enable or Disable Auto Correction on the iPhone is hidden. Who in gods name came up with that design ? We don't know, but we can tell you where or how to find the option !

NB : This works differently for firmware versions 1.x and 2.x, so please go to the appropriate segment for that :

Firmware versions 1.x :

Launch Installer and press the Install icon. Scroll down to the Tweaks (1.1.1) folder and press it. Press Kb2 and install it. When it's done, press the Home button and then slide to unlock. Now press Settings, General, Keyboard and you will see the new menu entry and the slider.

Firmware versions 2.x :

For the 2.x firmware, the procedure is a little more complicated. You will need to rename a file manually. I will be using the Terminal on the Mac to modify a file in this tutorial. These instructions can be applied to any files you want to modify, provided you already have OpenSSH installed.

Launch Terminal. Enter the following commands:

ssh This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it (or your IP address)
your root password
cd /System/Library/TextInput
mv TextInput_en.bundle TextInput_en_bk.bundle

You have now renamed the text input bundle to something else. You can undo this command by entering the reverse, if you'd like to turn auto correction back on.

obviously Apple is trying to convert the whole world to using english as their primary language by auto correcting everybody's notes and emails.

Fix-it: Smartphone stuck in 'headset' or 'car' profile

Sometimes, your phone chooses the 'headset' profile, while there is no headset connected to the phone. This makes the phone unusable since the speaker and mic will be disabled. The same goes for the 'car' profile.

What causes the 'stuck profile' problem ?

The problem is a mechanical one, NOT a software problem. The phone just fails to detect that you have removed the headset or remove the phone from the car kit.

How can you fix the 'stuck profile' problem on your HTC smartphone ?

There are several things you can try :

Rebooting the phone (but we guess you've tried that already)

Cleaning the connector with some alcohol on a cotton bud

Reinstering and removing the headset several times. It's important to try different 'angles' while you are removing the headset from the connector. Push and pull a little bit in different directions (use care, obviously you are trying to repair it, not wreck it). It should eventually pop out of the headset setting.

In the case of the car profile, you should try the same with the car kit. Insert and remove a few times from different angles.

Note : Most of the latest HTC phone models use a mini usb connector for the headset and carkit connection, which avoids the problem described.
